Many of those who grew up in Logan, IA, can reminisce on the countless opportunities to socialize in local businesses. Crystal Larson, co-owner of the Local Pub & Eatery, recalls, “We always had plenty to do, it seemed. Businesses were very welcoming.” For a few years, local businesses had been shutting down, seemingly never to be replaced. However, this small town is making a strong comeback.The businesses in town have been resurfacing, bringing back the small-town charm that Logan residents all know and love. One of Logan’s newest additions is the Local Pub & Eatery, replacing what used to be the 4th Avenue Grill. For a while, Logan residents had nowhere to eat out. Crystal Larson is hoping to continue to bring change to this: “I’m hoping to give people more options and bring community together.”One of the benefits of Logan’s small-town community would be the connections businesses are more inspired to achieve. Many businesses make arrangements with one another to encourage community involvement, such as the Logan Public Library collaborating with Grey Gelding Coffee Co. and BC’s Pizza. Another example of this involvement is the Panther Prints’ sponsors, who generously aid with the school newspaper’s funds. Larson has explained that she is eager to partner with local businesses, provide meeting spots, sponsorship, and purchase her food as locally as she is able.Currently, the owners are working on renovations to make the building more welcoming and accommodating. Many followers on social media have seen some of these renovations, such as the new HVAC system, the bathroom upgrades, the main flooring being redone, the office revamping, as well as some much-needed deep-cleaning. One of the most exciting upgrades is the rentable space/game room located in the back. Also in the entertainment area, new wiring is being installed to accommodate many TV’s to feature multiple sporting events.Larson aspires to create a cozy atmosphere at the Local Pub & Eatery that makes visitors revisit the simplicity of the past. When our minds weren’t traveling a million miles an hour, and we could smell the coffee and soak in all the memories and reminisce of why we love living in our small town,” Larson expresses.One way Larson plans to create this reflective atmosphere is with the menu. While it isn’t yet complete, she reached out to various members of the community to gain insight into what Logan residents would love to sit back and enjoy.

Logan residents are eagerly awaiting the opening of the Local Pub & Eatery, as the community has been searching for another cozy place to unwind. Larson acknowledges, “There is a deep need for dining out or grabbing a quick bite.” She also recognizes the senior population members who are on a fixed income, many of whom are unable to leave town to eat. “I would love to have cost-friendly pricing and provide a space...to gather and enjoy each other’s company.”The owners of this new business aspire to have people from all generations connecting, as well as to provide meals and jobs for people who are out of work. Through collaboration, accessibility, and a welcoming atmosphere, the Local Pub & Eatery aims to strengthen ties in the community across generations.
